The Jean Sibelius at Home – project
As the master composer disliked being photographed, Jean Sibelius was rarely caught on camera. In 1927 and 1945,
the film company Aho & Soldan was allowed to shoot a documentary featuring Jean Sibelius and his family at his
beloved home, Ainola. Supposedly, this was the first time Jean Sibelius was filmed. Based on the film, this truly
unique project has been created. It contains the following:
The film
"Jean Sibelius at Home" including Sibelius´ music arranged by Jussi Jalas, viewable on
A book
"Jean Sibelius at Home" contains 50 photographs selected from the film along with expert articles by Claire Aho,
Andrew Barnett, Markku Hartikainen, Ilkka Kippola, Robin Soldan, Marc Vignal and Timo Virtanen. The book is
trilingual (Finnish, Swedish, English).
A new English-only version is being planned. Depending on the level of interest, also books in other languages can
be published over time.
Photo exhibitions
"Jean Sibelius at Home" containing 5 - 50 photographs from the film and the book. The exhibitions are for rent.
The photographs fit nicely in any concert house, music academy, lounge, reception, conference- or meeting room,
office space and alike - and naturally in any private home. Any party such as concert halls, music academies,
cultural centers, embassies, any private or public company or organization, gallery or museum who wish to
arrange a reception, cocktail, seminar, lunch, coffee-break, dinner or any social event, can thus display their own
Sibelius-exhibition either for one houror up to 5 years.
The overall experience can be further enhanced by the Book, the planned DVD, postcards, calendar etc.
